Kwa Zulu Natal History Small rural town close to a hot springs resort. Pleasant hiking trails can be found around the town.

Natal South Africa 2010Paulpietersburg is named after Boer leaders Paul Kruger and Piet Joubert. The area is one of mixed farming - maize, dairy, cattle, groundnuts, timber.

Outside the town are three boulders which mark the spot where in 1902, General Louis Botha met with the Utrecht Commando to elect delegates to the peace talks in Vereeniging to end the second Boer War. There is a small resort at Dumbe Dam outside the town.

Löneburg (30km from town) was the settlement of Hermannsburg German missionaries in the late 1800s. There is brass band practice is every Friday night and there is a small museum. Spa Baths (15kms from town) 3 hot spa baths (reputed to be radioactive) and 4 cold mineral baths, hotel and caravan park.

There are walking trails at Wagendrift - (30km from town). The small settlement was fortified during the Anglo/Zulu War of 1879 and the inhabitants spent some nine months behind the fortifications. The cemetery contains the graves of the British soldiers who died at the battle of Intombi Drift in 1879.

  Game viewing of rhino and 40 other species accompanied by a tour guide.

The Dumbe Trail is a 10km mountain trail through areas with old mine shafts and birdlife.
