Through its neighbour relations programme, KwaZulu Wildlife is involved in the socio-economic development of its neighbouring communities to stimulate rural economy around protected areas.
One of the forms this assistance has taken is the creation of community based Zulu arts and crafts centres. This is a partnership between communities and conservation which relies completely on the sustainable use of natural resources.
In creating these centres, extensive capacity building has been undertaken to empower these local communities to run and manage these centres on their own. They are now benefitting directly from ecotourism.
Next time you visit our 'World in One Province' support these centres by purchasing your own or your clients' souvenirs. Not only will you find exquisite traditional Zulu arts and crafts on sale but you will also contribute directly to the ecotourism benefit these communities derive.
At these centers, there is no middle man. The profit finds its way directly into the pocket of the individual artists each of whom usually supports up to 15 people on their income.
KwaZulu-Natal offers so much scenic splendour and diversity of peoples and tourism products - why not leave more than your footprints behind? Spend your money where it can do most good.
