Health Services

The focus of this service is the empowerment of communities in order that they may develop healthy lifestyles through liaising between service providers and the community and assisting with food gardening and self employment projects.

To facilitate this, communities are taught committee procedure and negotiating skills.

Young people are instructed on sexuality education, drug/alcohol abuse and nutrition. Additionally, workshops and seminars dealing with a healthy way of life are delivered to the public and educational organizations.

Services from community clinics include antenatal care, geriatric care, immunization, post coital contraception, sexually transmitted disease care, tuberculosis treatment and treatment of minor ailments.

Clinics also monitor baby development, offer support to child care facilities and HIV/AIDS counselling.

The centre functions to supply service providers with the requisite skills to deal with the challenges that AIDS brings, to ensure that those infected have access to the necessary support mechanisms, to supply resource material to target audiences and to facilitate the upliftment of communities through self help projects.

The Chest Clinic detects pulmonary tuberculosis and provides necessary treatment. It also deals with sexually transmitted diseases, including the tracing of contacts and supplies condoms.

The department assists, informs and advises people both in their places of work and in their homes on matters relating to food, water and biological/physical risks. It also deals with disease vectors, noise/air pollution, health in care facilities and health in the workplace.
