Newspaper
Durban has two English language daily newspapers, the morning Natal Mercury (catering to the upper crust part of the market) and the evening Daily News. On Saturdays, only one paper, the Saturday Independent is published.
The other daily paper is the Zulu Ilanga. One Sunday paper is published locally, the Sunday Tribune however, there is a local section in the nationally circulated Sunday Times. The Post is published weekly (Wednesdays) and is directed at the Indian population.
Magazines
Several national magazines are published locally - Personality, Your Family, Garden & Home, Rooi Rose, Living and Loving, Personality, Bona (Zulu), Thandi (Zulu), Keur (Afrikaans), Scope and Farmer's Weekly.
Radio
There are several state owned and private radio stations. Amongst the former are 5FM (pop music), SAFM (general listenership) and AFrikaans and Zulu stations. Among the latter are East Coast Radio (pop), Radio Truro (for the Indian population) and P4 (light jazz).
Television
The state run South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) operates three channels, inventively called 1,2 and 3. 1 is aimed at general viewers, 2 is principally directed towards Africans and 3 is exclusively English language.
MNet is a subscription service that offers three channels and DSTV, a sister company operates a satellite service offering 30 or so stations. A free to air company, eTV has arrived, offering a wide range of programmes 24 hours a day.
