Scottburgh

Scottburgh is at the mouth of the Mpambanyoni River which, because of the tortuous route it follows is known as 'the confuser of birds'. This resort offers bathing, a championship golf course and a miniature train that runs past one of the largest caravan sites in KwaZulu-Natal.

Near Scottburgh is Crocworld, the largest collection of crocodiles on the African continent with more than ten thousand of the reptiles.

The park also boasts the only crocodile aquarium so guests can get a glimpse of the underwater life of the crocodile. There are also flamingoes, water monitors, bush babies and vervet monkeys.

A self guided trail takes guests through typical coastal bush. The restaurant serves not only croc steaks but also fresh cream scones. There is a playground, an information centre and guided tours of the park to offer guests an insight into crocodile farming.

Close to the town are two nature reserves. The first is the TC Robertson Nature Reserve (KwaZulu Wildlife) where visitors can enjoy a mixture of riverine and coastal forest and grassy hillsides. There are trails, 200 species of bird and picnic and braai sites.

The second is Umdoni Park, near Pennington that contains pristine coastal forest with many bird species and smaller mammals.
